Hdd Pw.exe Dos

I took a computer off of a Domain and its login screen is now going to default machine name instead of administrator. I don't know login PW for this screen and am the administrator. So I need to enable administrator login option from a command prompt andcannot get to a command prompt. I booted in options screen and selected for 'safe mode with command prompt' and it still booted to the normal login screen. I booted off of the recovery disk and it only gave me two options. Format and re-install or make backups.Any help to address this situation would be appreciated.Dan.

I cant seem to find a DOS newsgroup so I hope you can answer this here. I want to backup my entire C drive to an external drive. The windows backup utility skips windows programs that are in use at the time of backup such as settings etc. What is the DOS copy command used from the DOS command prompt to copy my entire C drive to F: Backups C. I also cannot get to a dos prompt to enable the option using the 'net user' command.- You get to the Command Prompt by executing 'cmd.exe'. Note also that 'DOS' is an operating system that was last used 14 years ago under Windows ME. Windows 7 does not run DOS - it is based on Windows NT.

I took a computer off of a Domain and its login screen is now going to default machine name instead of administrator. I don't know login PW for this screen and am the administrator. You need to ask your domain administrator for assistance. He would know the details of at least one if not two local admin accounts.I am the administrator. This is a stand-alone computer now. No domains are involved.

Someone else no longer here created the (non- administrator) machine login that is coming up now that the computer was removed from the domain. I need the procedure to getto a dos prompt to enable the administrator account login option. Or a PW reset procedure for the machine account. I am the administrator. This is a stand-alone computer now.

I need the procedureto get to a dos prompt to enable the administrator account login option. Before I take a machine off a domain I always make sure that I have at least one working local admin account but preferably two, for obvious reasons. Here is how you can reset the local admin password:. Use your Repair CD to boot the machine into Repair Mode, then open a Command Prompt.

Locate the System drive. It won't be drive X. Rename sethc.exe (in the System32 directory) to sethc.org, then copy cmd.exe to sethc.exe. Reboot normally.

When challenged for a password, tap the Shift key five times to get a Command Prompt. Use the command net user administrator. To set the password and/or activate the account. Restore sethc.exe. I am the administrator.

I also cannot get to a dos prompt to enable the option using the 'net user' command.

Even thoughI use the F8 function on boot-up, select 'safe mode with command prompt' the Windows 7 64 bit HP still goes to the same user log-in screen.I tried to boot off of the 'Restore Disk' since I don't have a 'repair disk'. It only gave me the option to wipe and reload or back-up the Operating system. I had no option for command prompt was offered. I do have a working admin account. I just cant get the option to use it. It takes only three minutes to burn one via the Control Panel / Backup and Restore. Ask a friend to burn one for you if unable to do it yourself. I do have a working admin account. You need to log on under an admin account. How do I log in under Admin with no option to select an admin account. I ONLY get a 'PC Name' generic log-in that does not have the administrator's password. Keep in mind this a HP which means they take away a lot of what you are expecting. So I do nothave the traditional Windows installation disks.

I have recovery disks that always want to wipe and restore or backup existing system.I also cannot get to a dos prompt to enable the option using the 'net user' command.- You get to the Command Prompt by executing 'cmd.exe'. I understand that DOS isn't the correct terminology. I figured the point I was making would be understood.

I cannot execute the CMD.exe without getting into the system. I cannot get into the system without the password since I have no Admin log-in option, I cannot get this option without the Command prompt without logging in. Vicious circle.

So I am thinkinga boot disk might help out the situation or pay $69 for a password breaking program off the internet.:(Even though I use the F8 function on boot-up, select 'safe mode with command prompt' the Windows 7 64 bit HP still goes to the same user log-in screen.- I have never seen a machine that did not respond to the F8 function. When you first used Windows, after purchasing the PC, you were prompted for an account name and a password.

This account was automatically created as an admin account. It still is an admin account unless someonedemoted it.

If you never created a spare admin account then it is the only account you will see on the logon screen.Ordinary users can open a Command Prompt same as admin users. It is sufficient to click the Start globe, thenSearch Programs and Files, then to type cmd.exe. However, if the domain administrator set a policy to prevent access to the Command Prompt then you're stuck. In this case a recommend a destructive Factory Restore. We are not getting anywhere. All I know is I set up the computer up with the same password as I have used with may Computers.

The password hint is not a hint that remotely hints to the PW. It will always be a mystery. I suspect someone got in and playedaround with something or we had a glitch. Does the computer name 'Front Office' usually get used on the screen when booting up onto administrator account?Yeah, I am familiar with opening the command prompt from within windows. If I could only get into windows. Both CMD and command work.I guess the wipe and reload is inevitable. Or I will just pay $69 to purchase a hack. Thanks for the input.Dan.
