Sapphire Technology yesterday announced a new addition to its graphics card lineup, the HD 7970 6GB TOXIC Edition. It boasts the highest speeds in its class and sports one of the fastest single GPU graphics card in the world.

The Sapphire HD 7970 6GB TOXIC Edition is based on the latest AMD Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition, and is the world’s first graphics card to feature a 6GB frame buffer, making it the best consumer-grade graphics card for multi-screen gaming and digital content creation, video editing or rendering.

By default, the Sapphire HD 7970 6GB TOXIC runs at 1050MHz with the ability to dynamically boost to 1100MHz. It has an effective memory clock of 6,000MHz, and comes equipped with the Lethal Boost button, which when enabled, boosts the core clock speed to 1,100MHz with a dynamic boost of 1,200MHz. The effective memory clock is also pushed to 6,400MHz.

To prevent the card from reaching critically high temperatures, Sapphire used its Vapor-X cooling technology on this card. The HD 7970 TOXIC has a custom designed Vapor-X solution whereby four heatpipes carry the heat away from the GPU, which is then dispersed by two 90mm fans.
